JOB SUMMARY 

The Surge Medical Doctor will provide emergency and general clinical care, supporting overwhelmed facilities during high patient inflow or humanitarian crises. The role includes stabilizing critical cases, mentoring staff, and ensuring continuity of essential medical services in the assigned Health Center/Hospital.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function with or without reasonable accommodation.

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide comprehensive clinical care in emergency, outpatient, and inpatient settings.

  • Assess, diagnose, and manage acute medical cases, including severe infections, trauma, and complications.

  • Support emergency and life-saving procedures in collaboration with specialist staff.

  • Mentor and supervise nurses, medical officers, and junior staff in clinical management.

  • Ensure accurate documentation, reporting, and medical record-keeping.

  • Implement infection prevention and control (IPC) practices according to hospital and IMC standards.

  • Participate in hospital emergency preparedness and response activities.

  • Coordinate patient referrals with higher-level facilities as needed.

  • Contribute to quality improvement and clinical audits.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

· Medical Doctor (MD) with valid license to practice.

· Two years’ clinical experience, including emergency care.

· Experience in humanitarian or low-resource settings is preferred.

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with children and families

· Fluency in English (required); knowledge of local language(s) is an advantage.

· Commitment to humanitarian principles and professional ethics. 

· Ability to work under pressure in fast-paced outbreak environments. 

· Strong organizational, problem-solving, and multitasking skills. 

· Proactive, flexible, and capable of managing multiple responsibilities.
