Job Summary
DEDE Bottle Factory is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Shift Fitter II – Cold End to join our production maintenance team. The primary focus of this role is to perform preventative maintenance and emergency mechanical repairs across all Cold End machinery—including conveyors, palletizers, thermo shrink units, shuttle cars, and cullet belts. The successful candidate will ensure precise mechanical alignment and operational efficiency to minimize glass breakage, eliminate production bottlenecks, and maintain strict adherence to safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
1. Equipment Maintenance & Repair
Perform routine preventative maintenance and emergency repairs on all Cold End machinery (Conveyors, Palletizers, Thermo Shrink, Shuttle Car, and Cullet Belt) in accordance with the preventive maintenance schedule.
Apply structured fault-finding methods to diagnose equipment failures, resolve mechanical issues, and implement line performance improvements.
Calibrate and inspect Cold End machinery for mechanical defects before and after production runs.
Maintain equipment reliability across the packaging sequence, ensuring seamless transition from the palletizer to the shrouder out-feed.
Conduct follow-up inspections after machinery has operated for one lehr length post-repair.
Test all repaired machinery strictly according to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
2. Operational Support & Quality Control
Support packaging line activities, including shift changeovers, line stoppage management, repacks, and on-the-job mechanical adjustments.
Verify that output pallets are correctly stacked and organized in demarcated storage zones.
Maintain precise component alignment across packaging machinery to avoid glass damage and downtime.
3. Occupational Safety & Housekeeping
Enforce and apply Lockout-Tagout (LOTO) protocols prior to undertaking any mechanical repairs or servicing.
Adhere strictly to plant safety rules and wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
Maintain clean and organized conditions across the packaging and workshop areas, including regular cullet removal.
4. Documentation & Reporting
Review shift maintenance logs, machine status indicators, and communication handovers at the start of each shift.
Complete and sign all maintenance logs, job cards, and repair sheets accurately.
Log equipment deviations and recurring mechanical issues using electronic Non-Conformance Reports (NCR) directed to the Maintenance Supervisor.
Track spare parts utilization and store inventory pulls following authorization from the Cold End Head.
Working Relationships
Direct Supervisor: Cold End, Inspection and Packaging Supervisor.
Key Interdepartmental Liaisons: Quality Control (QC) Clerk and Production Shift Supervisor.
Job Requirements
Job Requirements & Qualifications
Education: TVET / Advanced Diploma or bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related technical discipline.
Experience: Minimum of Four (4) years of direct mechanical maintenance experience as a Fitter or Maintenance Technician in a manufacturing or industrial setup (experience in glass bottle manufacturing or automated packaging lines is highly advantageous).
Core Competencies & Skills:
Demonstrated expertise in mechanical troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and equipment alignment.
Familiarity with industrial equipment including palletizers, conveyors, shuttle cars, and shrink wrappers.
Working knowledge of industrial safety systems, LOTO procedures, and hazard management.
Proficiency in basic computer applications for electronic reporting and spare parts logging.
Confidentiality & Compliance
Maintain strict confidentiality regarding company technical manuals, operational data, and administrative records.
Ensure all material requisitioning and tool expenditures receive prior approval from the Cold End Supervisor.
