Position Title: Senior Material Quality Assurance Engineer

Reports To: Design Review Manager and Project Coordination Team Leader

Duty Station: Addis Ababa Head Office

Salary & Benefits: Negotiable, commensurate with qualifications and experience

Job Purpose

To ensure that all construction materials used in company projects comply with approved specifications, standards, and contract requirements. The role is responsible for establishing, implementing, and maintaining material quality assurance systems across all projects.

Job Requirements

• Educational Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Quality Management, or related field.

• Professional Experience: 5 Years and Above

Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop and implement material quality assurance procedures and inspection plans.

• Ensure all materials (cement, aggregates, steel, finishes, MEP materials, etc.) meet project specifications and standards.

• Review and approve material submittals, technical datasheets, and samples.

• Verify compliance with relevant codes and standards (ASTM, BS, EN, or local standards).

• Supervise material inspection processes at site, supplier facilities, and storage locations.

• Ensure proper sampling and laboratory testing of materials.

• Review and validate test results and laboratory reports.

• Coordinate with third-party laboratories for independent testing when required.

• Assess and approve material suppliers, manufacturers, and sources.

• Conduct factory inspections and audits where necessary.

• Monitor supplier performance and maintain an approved vendor list.

• Identify non-conforming materials and initiate NCRs (Non-Conformance Reports).

• Lead investigations into quality failures and recommend corrective and preventive actions.

• Ensure proper disposition of rejected materials (replacement, rework, or disposal).

• Maintain records of material approvals, test results, and inspections.

• Prepare periodic quality reports highlighting issues, trends, and risks.

• Ensure proper documentation for audit and compliance purposes.

• Work closely with project teams, consultants, and contractors on material approvals and quality issues.

• Provide technical support during procurement and construction stages.

• Participate in project meetings related to quality and materials.

• Develop and update quality assurance procedures and checklists.

• Promote best practices in material handling, storage, and usage.

• Train project staff on material quality requirements and procedures.
