To support its growing portfolio of projects, the Company is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Electrical Engineer to join its Engineering and Technical Department.

Position Summary

The Senior Electrical Engineer will be responsible for the design, planning, estimation, technical review, and coordination of electrical systems for building construction projects. The position requires extensive experience in power distribution systems, Extra Low Voltage (ELV) systems, quantity surveying, cost estimation, technical documentation, and site coordination.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring that electrical designs and installations meet project requirements, engineering standards, budget targets, and construction schedules.

Job Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or with related field of study from a recognized university

• Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering is an added advantage.

Experience

• Minimum of 6 years of proven experience in electrical design engineering, particularly for building construction projects.

• Minimum of 2 additional years of hands-on construction site experience involving electrical installation and supervision.

• Experience in high-rise and large-scale building projects and in MEP coordination and project management will be preferred

• Demonstrated experience in designing both Power Systems and Extra Low Voltage (ELV) Systems.

• Experience in commercial buildings, high-rise developments, hotels, hospitals, industrial facilities, or mixed-use developments is highly preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities

Electrical Design and Engineering

• Prepare, review, and approve electrical design drawings for building projects.

• Design and develop power distribution systems, lighting systems, grounding systems, lightning protection systems, and ELV systems.

• Prepare electrical load calculations, cable sizing, voltage drop calculations, and equipment selection.

• Develop single-line diagrams, panel schedules, and electrical layouts.

• Ensure compliance with applicable electrical standards, codes, and regulations.

• Review and optimize electrical designs to improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

Quantity Surveying and Cost Estimation

• Prepare accurate quantity take-offs from design drawings and project documents.

• Develop detailed Bills of Quantities (BOQ) for electrical works.

• Prepare project cost estimates, material cost analyses, and budget forecasts.

• Conduct market price assessments and prepare competitive price quotations.

• Review subcontractor quotations and technical proposals.

• Support procurement activities by preparing technical specifications and material schedules.

Technical Coordination and Project Support

• Coordinate electrical design activities with Civil, Structural, Mechanical, HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Fighting, and ICT disciplines.

• Participate in design review meetings and technical coordination sessions.

• Provide technical guidance and support to project teams during construction.

• Review shop drawings, material submittals, method statements, and technical submissions.

• Assist in resolving design and installation challenges encountered during project execution.

• Conduct site inspections to verify compliance with approved drawings and specifications.

Quality Assurance and Compliance

• Ensure all electrical designs and installations comply with project requirements and quality standards.

• Verify that electrical works comply with Ethiopian standards and international engineering practices.

• Participate in testing, commissioning, and project handover activities.

• Prepare technical reports, progress reports, and engineering documentation.

Project Planning and Monitoring

• Support project planning, scheduling, and resource allocation activities.

• Monitor electrical work progress against project schedules.

• Identify potential risks and recommend mitigation measures.

• Assist management in project budgeting, forecasting, and performance evaluation.

Skills and Competencies

• Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD.

• Strong understanding of electrical design principles and building services engineering.

• Ability to perform detailed quantity take-offs and measurements from drawings and site data.

• Proven experience in BOQ preparation, cost estimation, and tender documentation.

• Strong technical report writing and documentation skills.

• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.

• Strong interpersonal, communication, and coordination skills.

• Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet strict deadlines.

• High level of professionalism, accountability, and attention to detail.

Preference will be given to candidates with:

• Proficiency in ETAP, Dialux, Revit MEP, EPLAN, or other engineering software.

• Knowledge of electrical testing and commissioning procedures.

• Familiarity with Ethiopian Building Codes and international standards such as IEC, NEC, IEEE, and BS Standards.
