About ELDA

The Ethiopian Lawyers with Disabilities Association is the first-ever professional association of persons with disabilities bringing together lawyers engaged in policy review and analysis, attorneys, prosecutors, judges, legal advisors and students with disabilities studying law in different parts of the country. Currently, ELDA has more than 330 active and registered members with in the nation. The Ethiopian Lawyers with Disabilities Association (ELDA) was formed in November 2019 being the first-ever professional association of persons with disabilities. The association was initiated by eight like-minded lawyers with disabilities and registered by the Ethiopian CSO Agencies with the certificate no. 4620 on December 19, 2019.

ELDA works to ensure the full promotion, protection and respect of all rights for all persons with disabilities in Ethiopia. The UNCRPD is the basis of our work and we work to enhance the direct and indirect participation of persons with disabilities in the justice system including as witnesses, in all legal proceedings, at investigative and other preliminary stages.

Project Background

ELDA, in consortium with Timran and Action for Peace and Humanity Organization (APHO), and with the financial support of Civil Society Innovation Fund (CSIF), is on the preparation of commencing a project entitled “VOICE+: Inclusive Voices for Peace and Human Rights in Ethiopia”. The project focuses on strengthening social cohesion, inclusive participation, and trust between citizens and institutions through community-led interventions that promote accountability and protect human rights. Its added value lies in linking peace building and human rights efforts while amplifying marginalized voices, contributing to more inclusive and resilient societies across six regions of Ethiopia.

 

We are seeking to hire a dedicated Regional Project Officer at Adama to take part in this project.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare a detailed work plan for the implementation of the activities of the project;

  • Implement project activities according to the Work Plan;

  • Coordinate all regional activities;

  • Prepare periodic reports on the progress of project implementation;

  • Follow strictly up the conduct of different researches necessary for achievement of project goals;

  • Provide necessary supports for ELDA members and any person with disability who will be approaching ELDAs Adama project office;

  • Strictly follow up and ensure the preparation of all manuals, booklets, brochures, media events and similar outputs to the maximum quality as per plan of the project;

  • Participate in various training workshops and seminars organized by different stakeholders including ELDA and submit reports upon request to be made by the program coordinator

  • Make travels to other regions, (abroad when it is required), using economic mode of transportation necessary for effective implementation of project activities and achievement of organizational goals;

  • Act as a liaison between ELDA and regional (specifically Oromia region/Adama) stakeholders including but not limited to government offices;

  • Undertake such other tasks as may be assigned by the project Program Coordinator.

Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements

Education:

  • Education – minimum LLB degree or degree on other related social science fields

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 year of responsibility for the implementation of donor-funded project(s)

  • Work experience in the area of human right related and free legal aid service projects, desirable

  • Previous professional experience working with persons with disabilities desirable

  • Previous record of good interpersonal relationships and team work in the workplace

  • Competence in the use of computer applications

Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal skills, teamwork, and communication abilities.

  • Competence in computer applications.

  • Fluency in English and Amharic (knowledge of Tigrinya languages is an asset).

Preference will be given to qualified candidates with disabilities and women.
