Job Purpose

The Purchaser is responsible for the rapid execution of day-to-day market buying. This is a field-active role focused on sourcing immediate project needs, collecting proforma invoices, and ensuring the fastest possible turnaround for "off-the-shelf" materials and services.

Job Summary

Position Title: Purchaser/Purchasing officer

Reports To: Procurement and Logistic Manager

Direct Reports to: Procurement and Logistic Team leader/Supervisor

Duty Station: Addis Ababa Head Office

Salary & Benefits: Negotiable, commensurate with qualifications and experience

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Local Market Sourcing: Physically or digitally source construction-related items, tools, and consumables from markets.

  • Competitive Bidding: Obtain at least three price quotations from legal, registered suppliers for every purchase to ensure market-best pricing

  • Reporting & Transparency: Maintain the Daily Purchase Log and ensure all quotes are documented and filed for audit purposes.

  • Financial Integrity: Manage petty cash or credit accounts with 100% receipt accuracy and timely reconciliation.

  • Emergency Response: Execute urgent, short-notice "situational orders" to prevent site delays, ensuring materials reach the end-user within the minimum lead time.

  • Sample Management: Coordinate with technical engineers to provide physical samples or documents from the market for technical approval before buying.

Educational Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Purchaser, business administration or related field.

Professional Experience

  • Minimum of 2–4 years of progressive experience in supply chain officer, purchaser and/or logistic officer role.

  • Experience working in fast-paced, project-based environments such as real estate, construction, civil engineering industries is highly desirable.
