The purpose of this position is to assist the implementation of the “Project for the National Campaign for Promoting Knowledge, Attitude, and Behavioural Change in Population and Reproductive Health in Ethiopia (SHaPE II)” (here after referred to as “SHaPE2 Project”).

Organizational Setting & Project Outline

  • Yonsei Global Health Center & Ethiopia Office: The Yonsei Global Health Center (YGHC) was established on the 01st of March 2014 in affiliation with the Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation of Yonsei University Mirae Campus in Wonju, Korea.  The mission of YGHC is to promote health status of developing countries and contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals 2030 and disease-free society.  With a particular focus on Official Development Assistance (ODA) for developing countries, YGHC has carried out many projects funded by the Korean Government in numerous countries. They include Ethiopia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Peru, Paraguay, and Nepal so on.  To implement the SHaPE2 Project, YGHC set up its branch office in Addis Ababa of Ethiopia, in 2020. The YGHC Ethiopia Office has been registered as an international NGO to the Ethiopian Government since March 2021.

  • SHaPE 2 Project:  The Project is funded by Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and its implementation period is from December 2019 to December 2024.  The purpose of the SHaPE2 Project is to promote the awareness of population/sexual reproductive health and gender equality-oriented behaviour change across Ethiopia, with a goal of decreasing the total fertility

  • rate and maternal mortality rate in the country.  SHaPE2 Project implementation areas are two administrative cities: Addis Ababa and Dire Dawa, and five regions: Amhara, Oromia, Sidama, Somali, SNNPR.  Mass media campaign through TV/Radio programs broadcasting (i.e., dramas/spot advertisements) and dissemination of IEC/BCC materials will be conducted to improve community members’ awareness and behavioural change in SRH/family planning. Family planning policy advocacy workshops/forums targeting major stakeholders constitute another integral component of SHaPE2 project.

Obligation & Responsibilities

  • The project Officer/Media Campaign Specialist shall observe all the regulations provided by Employer, Ethiopia Office of YGHC, and faithfully carry out his/her duties related to implementation of SHaPE2 Project.

  • Under the direct supervision and technical guidance of Country Director of YGHC Ethiopia Office/Field Manager of SHaPE2 Project and the overall supervision of the Director of YGHC Headquarters/Project Manager of the SHaPE2 Project,  the Project Officer/Media Campaign Specialist is required to perform the following functions:

  • Supporting and following-up implementation of SHaPE2 media campaign activities including development, production and dissemination of TV/Radio programs, IEC/BCC materials, and digital media

  • Development of TOR and RFP to procure project related materials and consulting agencies for the SHaPE2 media campaign (e.g., production company or media houses).

  • Development of media campaign contents/messages

  • Supervision and technical guide of the assigned tasks and duties of the production company or media house that will be selected to produce and disseminate the SHaPE2 TV/Radio programs and IEC/BCC materials.

  • Communication and interaction with the YGHC’s partners and stakeholders such as Federal Ministry of Health and regional/city state health bureaus for implementation of SHaPE2 media campaign activities

  • Formation and operation of SHaPE2 hearing groups and monitoring groups.

  • Doing mission travel to SHaPE2 project implementing areas

  • Producing required deliverables or outputs (e.g., daily, and weekly reports) on time

  • And any other activities instructed by Country Director of YGHC Ethiopia Office/Field Manager of SHaPE2 Project and the Director of YGHC Headquarter/Project Manager of SHaPE2 Project which are deemed to be necessary in the implementation of the SHaPE2 Project and operation of YGHC Ethiopia Office

Organization (Employer): Yonsei Global Health Center (YGHC) Ethiopia Office

Duty Station:  YGHC Ethiopia Office in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Period of Employment: 12 months, including the probationary period of sixty (60) days beginning from 1st March of 2023 (starting date will be discussed)

Job Requirements

Qualification & Requirement

Education 

  • A first-level (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in communication science, journalism, public relation, or any other relevant field is a minimum requirement.

  • Master Degree holder is preferred.

 Work Experience

  • A minimum of three years of full-time work experience as TV drama program Producer at the production company or broadcasting agency is required.

  • Understanding of family planning, sexual reproductive health, population, and development contexts of Ethiopia is an asset.

 Language requirement

  • Excellence in both written and spoken English is required.

  • should be a native speaker of Amharic, and excellence in both written and spoken Amharic is required (should be able to write Amharic on computer keyboard).

  • Ability to speak or understand Afan Oromo, Somali, and/or Sidama language is strongly preferred.

Medical clearance

  • The selected Administrative Staff (assistant) will be required to provide a medical certificate of fitness for work within one month from the signing date of contract.

Payments and entitlement

  • The basic monthly salary ranging from ETB 37,600 to ETB 43,000 would be finalized during the negotiation process before the employment contract is signed.  The finalized basic monthly salary will be paid as the gross amount (before tax deduction).

  • Other compensations may include monthly package of phone calls/data, life insurance, and medical insurances.
