Background
Ohio State Global One Health (GOH, LLC) is an affiliate entity of The Ohio State University working extensively on a range of One Health-related projects targeting laboratory, surveillance, and healthcare (both human and animal) system strengthening, workforce capacity building, and research in Ethiopia. The Acute Febrile Illness (AFI) is the project GOH has been collaborating with the Ethiopia Public Health Institute (EPHI) in efforts of strengthening detection and characterization of Viral and Bacterial Agents Causing Acute Febrile Illness (AFI) in Ethiopia. As part of this collaboration and system strengthening, the project seeks to hire a project coordinator who will oversee the planning, execution and completion of the project.
Position Summary: Working in close collaboration with the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI), Regional Health Bureaus (RHBs) and sentinel sites, the project coordinator is expected to manage and provide technical oversight and guidance to this project. The project coordinator will be responsible for the management of the project and integration to the existing surveillance and response system, implementation, reporting, monitoring, procurement and other related health systems strengthening activities. Additionally, the project coordinator is responsible for the oversight of compliance, financial, personnel, and other related aspects of the project and for coordination with relevant actors to assure the project is conducted in accordance with federal regulations and organization’s policies and procedures.
Roles and Responsibilities
The position holder will have the following responsibilities:
In collaboration with EPHI the project coordinator ensures the enrollment of referral hospitals to serve as AFI sentinel sites from different regions
Coordinate procurement, shipment, delivery of supplies/equipment of sample collection materials and laboratory consumables (molecular, serologic, RDT) and follow supply management system
Ensure and support for timely specimen referral and result delivery of sentinel sites in collaboration with EPHI and Ethiopia Postal Service Enterprise
Collaborate with EPHI to incorporate the finding of epidemiological and laboratory data in to the existing national surveillance and response system
Coordinate and support development of guidelines, SOPs, reporting formats, community education materials and training documents
Ensure organization and conduct of planned capacity building activities, review meetings and workshops
Coordinate AFI surveillance and laboratory activities with site focal in the selected sentinel sites to ensure proper patient screening, enrollment, epidemiological and laboratory investigation, reporting and sample referral as per the protocol
Supervise, support, train and mentor facility-based surveillance officers and testing laboratorians
Ensure AFI surveillance activity report from sentinel sites are shared timely and are complete
Liaison communication between the sentinel sites, EPHI and CHAMPS laboratory
Oversee data review, validation, analysis and report generation of AFI related information generated from the sentinel surveillance system
Prepare internal progress reports regularly to demonstrate activity progress against plan and share timely
Working with key government counterpart and partners collaboratively to attain synergy and alignment
Compile and submit weekly surveillance report, monthly report and quarterly report as required by the organization
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor

Required Qualification and Experience
Advanced university degree in health sciences with masters in epidemiology, or public health or related field of study from an accredited university with at least five (5) years of relevant experience working in Public Health Emergency Management (PHEM) system or related activities.
Having of laboratory background is a plus
Experience in project management
Experience of conducting trainings, supervision and mentorship for public health surveillance and response activity
Experience of working in outbreak investigation, reporting and communication.
Experience in developing guidelines, SOPs and other documents
Familiar with country’s existing health policy and Public Health Emergency Management system
Adjunct skills required
Excellent communication (written and oral) and strong interpersonal skills
Professional fluency in English required
Able to work under strict deadlines and timely submission of deliverables
Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, advanced Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; and skills in one of R/ Stata/SPSS/Python, MS SQL are desirable
Strong analytical and conceptual skills and the ability to think and plan strategically
