Job Requirements
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Social Sciences or in a related field of study with relevant work experience
Experience:
2–3 years of experience within a humanitarian or development organization, preferably within the mine action sector.
Experience in donor reporting, proposal writing and contract management.
Demonstrable experience in external engagement, partnership management and due diligence.
Excellent oral and written English skills.
Fluency in Amharic- oral and written.
Duties and Responsibilities
Donor Engagement
Support the UDS General Manager in seeking out new funding opportunities.
Write concept notes, project proposals and programme briefs for potential donors, ensuring high-quality, persuasive submissions aligned with donor requirements.
Review and draft budget narratives, coordinating closely with the finance team, for donor reports, work plans and proposals.
Support the General Manager with the management of its existing partnership with The HALo Trust, ensuring compliance with obligations and UDS’s internal policies.
Represent UDS at relevant meetings and events.
Communications and Advocacy
Produce programme publications and digital content such as infographics, brochures, briefing documents, displays and presentations using visual communication tools (e.g., Piktochart, Canva).
Travel each cycle to joint HALO-UDS field operations to develop case studies, human-interest stories and emotive narratives for demonstrating programme impact.
External Engagement and Partnerships
Represent UDS externally with potential donors, partners, and other stakeholders; confidently deliver presentations and speak on behalf of the programme in public forums.
Manage due diligence processes and maintain documentation required for donor and partner engagement.
Support the UDS General Manager in developing and maintaining strategic partnerships to advance programme objectives.
Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL)
Use programme data to measure progress against objectives, highlight gaps and recommend solutions to strengthen programme delivery.
Contribute to programme reviews, evaluations and learning processes to improve impact and accountability.
Ensure programme outputs are captured and stored systematically for use in reports, proposals, and communications.
Programme Support
Support the drafting of UDS policies and strategic documents.
Provide secretarial support for programme meetings, including agenda preparation and accurate minute-taking.
Complete other tasks as required.
Skills & Competencies
Technical Skills
Understanding of quantitative and qualitative research methods.
Numeracy and IT skills; proficient in use of Microsoft Excel and Word.
Effective written communications skills, with the ability to produce compelling case studies, reports, and external-facing materials.
Excellent verbal communication skills, with confidence in public speaking and representing the organisation to external stakeholders.
Ability to create persuasive and emotive content for donor engagement and advocacy.
Proficiency in data presentation and visual communication tools (e.g., Piktochart, Canva).
Personal Attributes
Strong organizational and coordination skills, with the ability to ensure all deadlines are met.
Ability to work well under stress and in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to travel to joint HALO-UDS field operations as required to capture impact through photography and storytelling.
