Organization Description

CECOE is a coalition of over 175 local CSOs that operate in the fields of elections, human rights, and democracy. Under the Civil Society Organization proclamation 1113/2019, the Coalition is authorized and established. Since its founding, CECOE has participated in election observation missions for the Sidama and South West Ethiopia Peoples' Region referendums, as well as the sixth general Ethiopian elections. The Coalition has also taken part in numerous advocacy and public engagement initiatives.

About the Project

CECOE has been carrying out several projects aimed at bolstering the political participation of these marginalized groups. Currently, with financial support from the European Union and in partnership with Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy (NIMD), CECOE is implementing a project on enhancing the Participation of Women in Ethiopian Politics. One of the activities is monitoring selected media outlets to identify negative trends and recommend corrective measures

Objective

The objective of the project is to examine and analyse media portrayal of women in society and politics. CECOE’s Media Monitoring aim is to identify negative trends and recommend corrective measures on stereotypical media reporting on women’s role in politics.

Responsibilities

  • In consultation with the program and communication team, design a media monitoring methodology

  • Scan and monitor selected print, audio-visual, and social media outlets on Gender stereotyping issues

  • Monitor the internet and press publications focusing on Gender stereotypes

  • Analyze and summarize information from selected media stations

  • Compose and prepare periodic reports of the media monitoring activities

  • Capture and report on all Gender stereotyping updates

  • Responsible for the production of periodic podcasts

  • Participate in developing guidelines for CECOE’s Radio program

  • Participate in Radio Program content production and review the overall performance of the program

  • Content development for CECOE’s advocacy materials and  Social Media accounts

  • Undertake any other activities having similar nature

Job type: One Year with possible extension based on availability of budget and performance

Job Requirements

 Eligibility Requirements

  • MBA/MA/BA  degree in in Human Rights, Gender studies, Political Science, or Journalism

  • Excellent verbal and written English language skills.

  • Good knowledge of the latest developments in law enforcement

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills, including delivering formal and informal presentations and drafting and editing deliverables.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and in a team

  • Attention to details, good organizational and prioritization skills.

  • Be future focused, data-driven, strategy-minded, and thrive in fast-paced CSOs working environments;

  • Be methodical and detail oriented, with excellent writing, planning, and time management skills;

  • Be comfortable working with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Apps and have an aptitude for working with online and mobile applications;

  • Good computer illiteracy skills, including word processing skis and audio typing skills and the ability monitoring  tools including audio/video equipment as well as audio visuals.

  • Demonstrate knowledge in the principle of communications, information and public relation.
