Position Summary

The Legal Advisor & Liaison Officer serves a dual strategic role: protecting the organization’s legal interests, ensuring regulatory compliance, and managing high-level institutional relationships. This position oversees contract drafting, dispute mitigation, , and acts as the primary focal point between the company and government ministries, municipal bureaus, tax authorities, and local administrative bodies. 

Job Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from a recognized university.
  • Master of Laws (LL.M) or specialization in Business/Commercial Law is an added advantage

Experience

  • Minimum of 5–8 years of combined experience in corporate legal practice, in-house corporate counsel, or government liaising.
  • Proven track record handling industrial labor laws, commercial contracts, regulatory compliance, and direct engagement with public sector officials.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Legal Advisory & Governance

  • Strategic Counsel: Provide accurate, timely legal opinions and guidance to executive leadership on corporate law, employment/labor regulations, commercial transactions, and industrial compliance.
  • Contract Management: Draft, review, negotiate, and finalize commercial agreements, vendor contracts, procurement deals, service-level agreements (SLAs), and non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) to minimize liability.
  • Labor & Workplace Policy: Ensure company HR policies, collective bargaining agreements, employee discipline, and termination procedures align with local labor proclamations and statutory laws.

Government Relations & External Liaising

  • Regulatory Authority Engagement: Build and maintain strong working relationships with relevant ministries, regional bureaus, investment commissions, tax authorities, and municipal administrations.
  • Permits, Licensing & Renewals: Coordinate the acquisition, extension, and maintenance of all operational licenses, land leases, environmental clearances, import/export permits, and utility service agreements.
  • Expatriate & Immigration Support: Oversee work permit applications, residency visas, and regulatory clearances for expatriate staff and foreign technical personnel.
  • Special Authorizations & Directives: Prepare and track administrative petitions, tax relief filings, logistics/transit clearances, or raw material movement permissions with government offices.

Institutional & Community Coordination

  • Municipal & Local Community Affairs: Represent the company in meetings with local city administration, municipal mayors, neighborhood associations, and law enforcement agencies.
  • Corporate Secretarial & Minutes: Prepare, authenticate, and register board resolutions, extraordinary meeting minutes, and shareholder decisions with public registries.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Legal Risk Mitigation: 100% compliance with statutory labor, tax, and commercial regulations; zero unmitigated contract penalties.
  • Licensing Efficiency: 100% on-time renewal of operating permits, industrial land leases, and environmental clearances prior to expiry. 
  • Dispute Resolution: Reduced litigation turnaround times and minimization of financial liability through pre-court mediation. 
  • Turnaround Time: Review and return of commercial contracts within 48–72 hours

Skills & Competencies

  • Legal Acumen: Expert knowledge of contract law, labor proclamations, corporate tax, property law, and dispute resolution.
  • Liaison & Diplomacy: Outstanding negotiation, advocacy, and conflict resolution skills when interfacing with government authorities and local stakeholders.
  • Drafting Precision: Meticulous attention to detail in legal drafting, petition writing, and official administrative correspondence.
  • Languages: High proficiency in national/official government languages and English (both oral and written). safety.
