Labour Statistician

Job Summary

The Labour Statistician is responsible for the collection, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of labor market data to support evidence-based policymaking and workforce planning. The role involves monitoring employment trends, unemployment rates, labor migration, and workforce dynamics, and producing statistical reports to inform government strategies, labor policies, and programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Collection and Management
     

    • Design and implement labor market surveys and data collection systems.

    • Collect, verify, and manage employment and workforce data from various sources including government institutions, private sector, and international partners.

    • Maintain labor market databases and ensure data accuracy and integrity.
       

  • Statistical Analysis
     

    • Analyze labor market indicators such as employment, unemployment, wages, labor migration, and workforce participation.

    • Apply statistical models and analytical tools to identify trends and patterns in the labor market.

    • Produce forecasts and projections related to workforce supply and demand.
       

  • Reporting and Documentation
     

    • Prepare statistical reports, policy briefs, and labor market assessments.

    • Develop dashboards and visualizations to present labor statistics clearly.

    • Support the preparation of national labor market reports and publications.
       

  • Policy Support
     

    • Provide statistical evidence to support labor policies, employment programs, and workforce planning.

    • Assist policymakers in interpreting labor market data for decision-making.

    • Contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of labor and employment programs.
       

  • Coordination and Collaboration
     

    • Collaborate with government agencies, statistical offices, research institutions, and international organizations.

    • Support integration of labor market data into national information systems such as Labor Market Information Systems (LMIS).

    • Participate in national and international labor statistics initiatives.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in:

  • Statistics

  • Economics

  • Data Science

  • Labor Economics

  • Mathematics or related fields

Required Skills

  • Strong statistical analysis and data interpretation skills

  • Proficiency in statistical software such as:

  • SPSS

  • STATA

  • R

  • Python

  • Excel

  • Knowledge of labor market indicators and employment statistics

  • Ability to prepare analytical reports and policy briefs

  • Strong research and analytical thinking

  • Good communication and presentation skills

Attention to detail and data accuracy

Preferred Experience

  • Knowledge of international labor statistics standards

  • Experience working with government agencies, development programs, or research institutions.
