ICT and Computer Science teacher for Secondary School

Liaising with: Head of Secondary, Head of ICT, Leadership Team, Staff, Pupils and Parents / Carers

Main Responsibilities:

  • To implement and deliver an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for ICT and Computer Science to Secondary Stage students, including Functional and eventually IGCSE/ IBDP ICT and Computer Science.

  • To monitor and support the overall progress and development of students. 

  • To facilitate and encourage a learning experience which provides students with the opportunity to achieve their individual potential. 

  • To contribute to maximizing of student attainment. 

  • To share and support the school’s responsibility to provide and monitor opportunities for personal and academic growth. 

  • Planning To assist in the development of appropriate schemes of work towards selected ICT and computing syllabuses. 

  • To develop teaching resources, schemes of work, marking policies and teaching strategies in the curriculum area. 

  • To contribute to the curriculum area and department’s development plan and its implementation.

  • To ensure department documentation and practice in relation to Health and Safety is in place and adhered to. 

  • To assist in the process of curriculum development in ICT and Computing so as to ensure the continued relevance to the needs of students, examining and awarding bodies and the school’s ethos.

  • To ensure that the equipment is in good working order and suitable for teaching use.

    Key Functions

  • Take responsibility for the progress and learning of children on an annual basis by the Head of Primary and in accordance with the duties listed in this document
    The postholder will be expected to undertake duties in line with the professional standards for qualified teachers.

Teach pupils, and ensure that planning, preparation, recording, assessment and reporting meet their varying learning and social needs.
Maintain the positive ethos and core values of the school, both within the school and the wider community.

The main responsibilities of the post:

•    Teach pupils as directed by the Senior Leadership Team.

Attend relevant INSET/CPD opportunities and keep up with
•    current educational thinking and practice.
•    To work alongside our specialist teaching team
•    Support the subject and school leadership team in the development and management of the curriculum.
•    Demonstrate a high standard of classroom management and practice and teach within the framework of the school policies and guidelines paying particular attention to equal opportunities and behaviour management.
•    Implement the school’s positive behaviour management strategies in accordance with the behaviour management policy.
•    Implement agreed policies and guidelines.
•    Support initiatives taken by the school and SLT.
•    Assess pupil achievement and plan for future learning.
•    Plan appropriately to meet the need of all pupils, through the differentiation of tasks.
•    Keep appropriate and efficient records, integrating formative and summative assessment into planning.
•    Work with SLT and other colleagues to track the progress of individual children and intervene where pupils are not making progress.
•    Demonstrate good and outstanding classroom teaching.

Job Requirements

Education and Qualifications
•    A first degree and a teaching certificate (PGCE or equivalent). 
•    A minimum of two years’ experience in a similar school setting is an advantage. 
•    IGCSE and IB experience is preferred.
•    Evidence of continuous professional development experience
•    Proven ability as an excellent Classroom Teacher
Knowledge and Skills
•    Professional knowledge of what constitutes high quality and standards in teaching and learning.
•    Professional understanding of inclusion and strategies for engaging all learners.
•    Professional understanding of safeguarding within a school setting.
•    Ability to write reports, keep accurate records and communicate effectively
