House Keeper

The Housekeeper maintains the cleanliness of the USAU Deputy Chief Mission Residence, including but not limited to:  cleans house floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming them, cleans windows, glass partitions, and mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees, cleans walls, ceilings, dusty furniture, machines, and equipment, laundry, and iron clothing, gathers and empties trash regularly, replenishes supplies and run household errands as needed, event service to include set up, serving and clean up; assist chef as needed, reports maintenance needs, accidents, injuries, and unsafe work conditions as necessary, develops and maintains positive working relationships with others and perform other duties as assigned. The Housekeeper will report to the House Manager.

Job Requirement

  • Required Education: Completion of elementary school.

  •  Required Experience: At least 3 years of progressively responsible work experience as a housekeeper in any embassy or diplomatic mission, foreign nationals’ residences, or hotels/restaurant is required.

  • Language Requirement: Limited knowledge of English and Good Knowledge of Amharic language skill is required. (This may be tested)Skills and Abilities: Ability to operate washing machines/dryers, vacuum cleaner, ironing and must have good interpersonal skill.

Note: A non-citizen of the host country applicant (including a U.S. citizen or a third-country national) who is locally resident must have the required work/resident permit to be eligible for consideration.

EMPLOYER: The U.S. Embassy USAU Mission Deputy Chief of Mission; not the U.S. Embassy. As a personal employee of the USAU Deputy Chief of Mission the terms and conditions provided for the U.S. Government employees don’t govern this employment.

EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Fixed term contract until the employer permanently departs post or until one-month prior notice is provided by either the employer or the employee or the employee is dismissed for cause.

Probationary Period – 60 workdays
