Job Purpose: The Health and Nutrition Officer will lead, coordinate, and implement health and nutrition interventions under World Vision Ethiopia at the woreda level. The position ensures that all activities are well planned, effectively delivered, and properly monitored in line with national health policies and internationally recognized protocols. The officer will work closely with the Woreda Health Office, health facility staff, community leaders, and other partners to strengthen coordination and integration of services. Through regular field visits, he/she will assess service quality, identify gaps, and provide on-site technical support. Capacity building will be a core responsibility, including organizing trainings and providing mentorship for Health Workers (HWs), Health Extension Workers (HEWs), and community volunteers.

Job Requirements

  • Education: Master’s degree in public health or nutrition with clinical health background (degree in Public Health or Clinical Nursing) from accredited universities or health colleges.

  • Experience: Minimum five years working experience with NGOs in Emergency Health and Nutrition programs .

  • Training on IMNCI/ICCM/FP/EPI and PHEM (surveillance)

  • ToT training in Acute Malnutrition 2019 revised guideline

  • ToT training in revised 2019 IMAM guideline

  • Integrated Pharmaceuticals Logistics System (IPLS)

  • Certificate of training on SPHERE standards

  • Trained on Family MUAC approach

  • Health and Nutrition Assessments/Survey ToT/basic training

Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications

  • WV’s disaster management cycle and Sphere standards

  • Knowledge and experience in management of outbreak disease (cholera, measles, malaria …)

  • Knowledge, training and experience in management of MAM and SAM with/without medical complication

  • Demonstrated skills in CMAM/IMAM program planning, implementation and monitoring.

  • Experience in cascading family MUAC approach

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.

  • Willingness to work under pressure and extra hours, and out of assigned implementation area

  • Willingness and capacity to be flexible and accommodating when faced with difficult and frustrating working conditions;

  • Excellent training and facilitation skills, and Negotiation’s skills

  • Strong adherence to World Vision values;

  • Strong character traits, including emotional stability, adaptability, ability to handle stress, cultural and gender sensitivity and integrity;

Duties and Responsibilities:

Assessments and Situation Analysis

  • Participate in the planning and execution of health and nutrition assessments by providing context-specific information (e.g., geographic, economic, social, and anthropological data).

  • Conduct rapid needs assessments in emergency contexts in collaboration with other World Vision Ethiopia (WVE) sectors to inform response strategies.

Lead the delivery of essential primary health care services, including:

  • OPD and IPD consultations

  • Maternal and newborn health services (ANC, delivery, PNC)

  • Nutrition screening and management (SAM, MAM, GMP, MUAC)

  • Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI)

  • Support early detection and response through disease surveillance, outbreak reporting, and timely referrals.

  • Strengthen community health education and promote preventive health practices.

  • Ensure the availability and proper utilization of critical medicines, nutrition commodities, supplies, and job aids.

  • Supervise outreach services and community-based volunteers.

  • Oversee environmental health activities and ensure Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) supplies are adequately available and used.

Emergency Preparedness, Response, and Management

  •  Support the Woreda Health Office in developing response plans for disease outbreaks, floods, and other emergencies.

  • Assist in implementing outbreak response plans in coordination with local stakeholders.

  • Strengthen community-based preventive health care, focusing on common epidemic- prone diseases.

  • Update and maintain outbreak monitoring charts.

  • Contribute to surveillance and reporting under the Public Health Emergency Management (PHEM) framework.

Reporting and Documentation

  • Prepare and submit weekly nutrition updates and monthly performance reports.

  • Contribute to assessment reports, the HEA impact dashboard, 5W nutrition matrix, and monthly IPPT updates.

  • Document trainings, community sanitation campaigns, and project success stories.

  • Ensure activities align with the National Nutrition Program framework and maintain strong coordination with local stakeholders.

Internal and External Coordination

  • Participate in the different external coordination mechanisms at Regional, Zonal and woreda level.

  • Develop network of contacts at base level (INGOs, LNGOs, government, technical or scientific) to allow a smooth implementation of the project

  • Provide updates on WVE health and nutrition activities in the different external coordination meetings

  • Provide technical inputs according to WVE guidelines, positioning papers, and strategy in the external coordination mechanisms as well as technical working groups

  • Liaison with international and local partners regarding health and nutrition activities

  • Lead and provide support to health and nutrition team on external partners’ (including donor

  • visits) field visits - represent WVE, development of briefing papers etc.

  • Share minutes of meetings attended including summary of action points

  • Ensure timely submission ENCU and Health Cluster report at national level/sub national level
