Job Summary

The General Practitioner is responsible for providing comprehensive primary healthcare services, including the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of acute and chronic illnesses. The GP delivers high-quality patient-centered care, promotes health education, and ensures proper referral and follow-up of patients requiring specialized care.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical Services

• Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including medical history taking and physical examinations. 

• Diagnose and manage acute and chronic medical conditions. 

• Prescribe medications and treatments according to established clinical guidelines. 

• Request, interpret, and utilize laboratory and imaging investigations appropriately. 

• Perform minor medical and surgical procedures within the scope of practice. 

• Manage emergency cases and provide initial stabilization when necessary. 

• Provide preventive healthcare services, including immunizations, screening, and health counseling. 

• Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans accordingly. 

Patient Care

• Educate patients and families regarding disease prevention, treatment options, and healthy lifestyle practices. 

• Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold ethical medical practice. 

• Ensure informed consent is obtained before procedures and treatments. 

• Provide compassionate and culturally sensitive care. 

Referral and Coordination

• Refer patients to specialists or higher-level healthcare facilities when appropriate. 

• Coordinate patient care with other healthcare professionals. 

• Follow up on referred patients and ensure continuity of care. 

Documentation and Reporting

• Maintain accurate, complete, and timely medical records. 

• Prepare medical reports, certificates, and referrals as required. 

• Participate in clinical audits and quality improvement activities. 

• Ensure compliance with national healthcare regulations and clinic policies.

Job Requirements

Qualifications

Education

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from a recognized institution. 

Licensure

• Valid professional license issued by the appropriate health regulatory authority. 

• Registration with the relevant medical council or licensing body. 

Experience

• Previous experience in primary healthcare settings is preferred. 

Skills and Competencies

• Strong clinical diagnostic and decision-making skills. 

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 

• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. 

• Competence in emergency patient management. 

• Proficiency in medical record documentation. 

• Strong ethical and professional conduct. 

Working Conditions

• Full-time position. 

• May require participation in on-call duties, weekend, and holiday coverage. 

• Works in outpatient clinics, Emergency Department, and Inpatient Service.
