Position Summary

The General Manager (GM) serves as the Chief Executive Officer of EPOSEA, responsible for the overall management, leadership, and strategic direction of the Association.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the GM oversees day-to-day operations, leads advocacy and partnership efforts, manages financial and human resources, and ensures that EPOSEA delivers maximum value to its members and stakeholders.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and implementation of EPOSEA’s strategic and annual work plans.

  • Oversee all operational departments, including Policy & Advocacy, Market Intelligence & Innovation, Member Services & Capacity Building, Research and development, Finance & HR, and Project Management.

  • Serve as Secretary to the Board of Directors, providing reports, policy briefs, and strategic advice.

  • Represent EPOSEA in national and international forums, trade events, and policy dialogues.

  • Drive advocacy and public–private partnerships that improve the business environment for exporters.

  • Oversee financial management, budgeting, audits, and compliance with applicable laws.

  • Mobilize resources through partnerships, grants, and income-generating activities.

  • Supervise and develop staff, fostering a culture of transparency, teamwork, and innovation.

  • Ensure timely communication, training, and support services to association members.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Education:
    A minimum of Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Economics, Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, International Trade, or related field.

  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 10 years of progressive professional experience for a Master’s degree, or 8 years for a PhD, with at least 5 years in senior management or executive leadership roles.

    • Proven experience in trade association management, export promotion, agribusiness, or private-sector development.

    • Demonstrated success in stakeholder engagement, policy advocacy, and organizational leadership.

  • Technical Competencies:

    • Strong understanding of Ethiopia’s agricultural policies, particularly in the pulses and oilseed export sectors.

    • Familiarity with international trade frameworks (GAFTA, FOSFA, AfCFTA, WTO).

    • Excellent communication skills in English and Amharic (both written and spoken).

    • Proficiency in project management, financial oversight, and digital tools.
