The Field Officer will play a key role in the on-ground implementation of the TOV Project, supporting smallholder farmers—especially women—in adopting climate-smart, Israeli agricultural technologies. The position involves technical support in agronomy and irrigation, stakeholder engagement, training facilitation, and consistent monitoring to ensure project success in targeted kebeles.
Job Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Rural Development, or related fields.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of field experience in smallholder agriculture, preferably with women-focused initiatives.
Job Competencies/Skills
Technical knowledge in drip irrigation, nursery management, vegetable production, and extension services.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder coordination skills.
Proficiency in Amharic.
Experience using digital tools for monitoring or planning is a plus.
Strong sense of personal accountability, reliability, and ownership of results.
Proactive, self‑starter mindset with the ability to prioritize tasks and make decisions under changing conditions.

Duties and Responsibilities
1. Promotion and Training in Agricultural Technologies
Introduce and promote improved Israeli agricultural technologies hybrid vegetable seeds, drip irrigation systems, etc. using appropriate extension approaches—including household visits, group discussions, field days, farmertofarmer exchange visits, and video demonstrations.
Promote hybrid vegetable seeds, drip irrigation systems, support farmers in accessing the technology, and ensure all systems are correctly installed and fully functional.
Identify, select, and link target farmers with relevant institutions to facilitate access to Israeli agricultural technologies and inputs.
Promote productionenhancing technologies and improved agronomic practices across operational areas.
Deliver highquality extension training and continuous followup support to ensure adoption of improved practices.
Establish and manage demonstration sites in Farmers Training Centers (FTCs) and model farmers’ fields, ensuring all technical requirements are met.
Assess farmers’ training needs and coordinate the development and implementation of tailored capacitybuilding programs.
2. Ongoing Farmer Support and Field Followup
Conduct onfarm supervision and provide advisory services aligned with seasonal activities and evolving field conditions.
Implement intensive followup across assigned operational sites. Any challenges preventing planned field visits must be reported immediately, along with proposed alternative solutions.
Provide training and technical support to TOV beneficiaries, Development Agents (DAs), and experts on installation, operation, and maintenance of drip irrigation systems.
Facilitate farmertofarmer learning visits at Kebele, Woreda, and interWoreda levels.
3. Agronomic Support
Identify the types and varieties of vegetable seeds and other inputs required by TOV target farmers.
Assess production challenges, bottlenecks, and opportunities within the farming cycle.
Develop agronomic protocols when needed and ensure their quality implementation in the field.
4. Technical Support
Oversee delivery of project inputs to beneficiaries and ensure these inputs are used strictly for their intended purposes.
Provide regular technical backstopping to TOV model farmers.
Maintain accurate records of all JDC-owned equipment and ensure proper tracking of inputs and drip irrigation system components managed by partners.
5. Partnership Management
Collaborate closely with government bodies, NGOs, Unions and private sector partners to maintain strong and productive relationships.
Work with cooperatives and unions to facilitate farmer access to improved seeds and related inputs necessary for horticulture production.
Ensure that TOV irrigation technologies and improved agricultural practices are properly demonstrated at selected sites and FTCs.
Organize and deliver training on installation, operation, and maintenance of drip irrigation systems.
6. Financial Management and Reporting
Monitor ZERA seeds sales and revolving of collected money by the cooperative unions to ensure proper utilization and timely revolving of the seed money.
Register all project clients using GPS and submit complete data to the project office.
Maintain continuous communication with team members through email and other reporting platforms.
Document the progress of target farmers and crops at all growth stages in both soft and hard copies.
Carry out additional tasks assigned by the immediate supervisor, Country Director, or TOV team in Israel.
Comply with all JDC policies, rules, and regulations.
