 Job Summary

New Leaf Medical Complex is seeking a proactive, detail-oriented, and committed Environmental Health Officer to join our healthcare team. The role is responsible for ensuring a safe, hygienic, and environmentally compliant healthcare environment through effective implementation of environmental health, sanitation, waste management, and infection prevention practices. The Environmental Health Officer will support patient and staff safety by monitoring environmental risks, enforcing health standards, and promoting compliance with healthcare regulations and infection prevention protocols.

Job Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Health or with related field of study from a recognized institution

  • Valid professional license/certification where applicable

Education:

  • 1–2 years of relevant experience in environmental health, sanitation, infection prevention, or healthcare-related settings

Duties and Responsibilities

Environmental Health & Sanitation Management
  • Monitor and ensure cleanliness, sanitation, and hygiene standards across all hospital departments and facilities

  • Conduct regular inspections of patient care areas, waste disposal systems, kitchens, sanitation facilities, and surrounding environments

  • Ensure compliance with environmental health regulations, standards, and organizational policies

  • Identify environmental health risks and recommend corrective actions promptly

Infection Prevention & Control (IPC)

  • Support implementation and monitoring of infection prevention and control (IPC) standards and procedures

  • Conduct routine environmental hygiene and infection control assessments

  • Ensure proper disinfection, sterilization, and sanitation practices are followed

  • Collaborate with clinical and support teams to minimize infection-related risks

Healthcare Waste Management

  • Monitor segregation, collection, transportation, storage, and disposal of healthcare waste according to standards

  • Ensure proper handling and disposal of hazardous, infectious, and non-infectious waste

  • Conduct waste management inspections and ensure compliance with environmental safety guidelines

  • Support waste reduction and environmental sustainability initiatives

Inspection, Compliance & Risk Management

  • Conduct environmental health and safety inspections throughout the facility

  • Identify potential environmental hazards and support implementation of mitigation measures

  • Prepare inspection findings, reports, and compliance recommendations

  • Support internal audits and regulatory compliance activities

Training & Awareness

  • Provide awareness sessions and training on hygiene, sanitation, waste management, and environmental safety practices

  • Promote environmental health awareness among staff and facility users

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to environmental safety and healthcare standards

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate environmental health inspection records and reports

  • Document incidents, hazards, corrective actions, and compliance activities

  • Prepare periodic environmental health and sanitation reports for management review

  • Environmental health inspection and monitoring

  • Infection prevention and control practices

  • Healthcare waste management

  • Risk identification and compliance monitoring.
