Chemonics International seeks experienced professionals for the USAID-funded Global Health Supply Chain - Procurement and Supply Management (GHSC-PSM) project. GHSC-PSM Ethiopia will serve as the primary vehicle through which USAID will procure and furnish health commodities, provide technical assistance to improve the country’s management of the supply chain, and collaborate with key international stakeholders to support global and local health initiatives.

The short term Driver is responsible for providing operational support to the entire GHSC-PSM Project team throughout project areas in Ethiopia. The Driver transports PSM staff at the Addis Ababa office and assigned regions. He/she provides or performs maintenance for assigned vehicle, maintains all records for the vehicles, and performs administrative tasks as assigned. The driver is aware of, and adheres to, Chemonics’s procurement integrity standards in all activities.

The purpose of the Global Health Supply Chain– Procurement and Supply Management (GHSC-PSM) Program is to ensure uninterrupted supplies of health commodities in support of United States Government (USG)-funded public health initiatives around the world. The project provides direct procurement and supply chain management support to the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI) and Population and Reproductive Health. In supporting USG-funded global health activities, GHSC-PSM will develop and manage a wide array of services for health commodity procurement and related systems strengthening technical assistance encompassing different elements of a comprehensive supply chain.

At the country level, GHSC-PSM supports country strategies and priorities that fall under the following three project objectives:

• Global Commodity Procurement and Logistics

• Systems Strengthening Technical Assistance

• Global Collaboration to Improve Long-Term Availability of Health Commodities

Purpose

The Project Driver is a member of the operations team on the Chemonics International Inc. /GHSC-PSM Project. He will provide operational support to the entire GHSC-PSM Project team throughout project areas in Ethiopia.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

The Driver transports PSM staff at the Addis Ababa office and assigned regions. He/she provides or performs maintenance for assigned vehicle, maintains all records for the vehicles, and performs administrative tasks as assigned. The driver is aware of, and adheres to, Chemonics’s procurement integrity standards in all activities.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Responsible for proper maintenance, care and cleanliness of assigned vehicle on a daily basis.

• Ensures vehicle is properly prepared, equipped, and ready for use before field trips including required maintenance, fully fueled, and clean.

• Demonstrate professional driving competence during the trip (drive at a safe speed, drive carefully around people, carts, and animals, apply brakes appropriately, respect other drivers, etc.)

• Develop and maintain good working relationships with all project personnel and passengers. Maintain neat and clean professional appearance. Provide timely and friendly support.

• Accurately records and maintains detailed record of trips including kilometers traveled, fuel consumed and cost, and dates of oil changes in accordance with Chemonics vehicle procedures.

• Prepare monthly summary of log sheets for the supervisor’s review at the end of each month.

• Ensure excellent understanding and compliance with all the traffic provisions and laws of Ethiopia

• Responsible for ensuring that regular scheduled maintenance of the vehicle using pre-selected garages are done on time and conduct minor repairs as authorized by the Fleet Management Specialist

• Ensure that all procedures are followed in case of accidents in accordance with Chemonics policies and procedures.

• Ensure vehicle has enough fuel, maintain the vehicles’ cleanliness, and ensure its security for daily use and proper evening and weekend storage/parking at office or hotel site.

Level of Effort and Location:

• This short -term position will be based in Addis Ababa, for 3 months period with possibility of extension based on need for the service and availability of funding. The position is required an intermittent travel throughout the program’s target regions as needed

Supervision

• The Driver will report directly to the GHSC-PSM Fleet Management Specialist or his/her designee

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

• Certificate in Auto mechanics or related fields (preferred)

• At least five years driving experience

• Experience in driving and familiarity with rural terrain and roads preferred.

• Valid 3rd grade driver’s license. Ability to provide proof of good driving record.

• Ability to perform minor repairs of vehicle.

• Administrative experience with experience performing computations preferred.

• Demonstrated punctuality, attention to detail, patience, good humor, flexibility, and overall positive attitude.

• A neat and professional appearance.

• Capacity in spoken and written English and the regional local language of assignment
