Background

Jhpiego, an affiliate of Johns Hopkins University, works to improve the health of women and families in limited-resource settings worldwide through strengthening the capacities of local institutions, systems, and facilitate in the health sector. Jhpiego is registered as International Non-Governmental Organization (iNGO) to operate in Ethiopia since 2003.

Jhpiego seeks a subject matter expert to support the development of proposal in the field of quality of health care in general and in Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH) services in particular.

Specifically, the expert is expected to support the following tasks:

  1. Identify and assess polices, such as HSTP-I, HSTP-II and other guidelines in line with Quality of Care
  2. Identify and assess evaluations, publications and other documentation in the area of quality of health as it pertains to RMNCAH 
  3. Identify and assess achievements and gaps of projects/activities that have been implemented to improve quality of health in RMNCAH in the past five years.
  4. Participate in the design planning development and review of the technical proposal
  5. Contribute context-specific technical writing related to the full range of quality of health care in RMNCAH
  6. Work with Jhpiego staff to suggest and link potential international and local partners for collaboration on the project
  7. Assist Jhpiego in locating additional key content technical experts
  8. Establish linkages to key stakeholders in target geographic area

Job Requirements

  • A clinical degree in medicine, nursing, midwifery or other relevant field + advanced degree in public health or health administration or a related field
  • In depth understanding of working in Quality of Care particularly in RMNCAH
  • Demonstrated in-depth understanding of the healthcare system in Ethiopia, particularly the public health system and 5+ years of experience working to support RMNCAH efforts in the country
  • Demonstrated understanding of current RMNCAH strategic direction and technical guidance
  • Demonstrated capabilities in capacity building at the organizational and individual levels, and experience working effectively with the government of Ethiopia
  • Excellent diplomacy skills and a proven ability to establish and maintain interpersonal and professional relationships with donors, host-country counterparts and representatives from other key stakeholders such as NGOs, CSOs, and the private sector
  • Excellent verbal, written interpersonal and presentation skills in the English language
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to travel nationally to project sites
