These positions are in the Publications & Conference Management Section (PCMS) within the Administration and Conference Management Division (ACMD) in the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Job Requirements
Education:
High school diploma or Bachelor's Degree in History, Political Science, International Relations, Tourism and Hospitality, Communication, Journalism, Heritage studies, Cultural Studies, Marketing, Public or Business Administration, will be advantageous or desirable.
Experience:
A minimum of seven (7) years of experience as a tour guide coordinator, in communication, journalism, public information, marketing, tourism and hospitality, or in a related field is required.
The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to five (5) years for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher.
1 year or more of experience in data analytics or a related area is desirable.

Duties and Responsibilities
Direct the end-to-end flow of guided-tour operations by creating daily and weekly schedules, managing daily logistics, and making real-time adjustments to ensure a fair workload and seamless visitor transitions.
Provide operational guidelines, address interpersonal issues, and deliver daily briefings to ensure consistency in information and professional standards.
Act as the central point of contact for all types of visitors including VIPs, diplomats, and group leaders, managing complex inquiries and resolving grievances tactfully to protect the institution’s brand image.
Ensure all visitors receive a high-standard experience by monitoring guide performance and enforcing strict adherence to organizational rules, practices, and professional ethics.
Oversee the execution of high-priority assignments, including VIP visits, “UN Kids” programs, and special request tours that may occur outside of standard operating hours, by coordinating schedules, preparing materials, assigning staff, and monitoring operations to ensure smooth, safe, and standards-compliant execution
Support the collection of visitor feedback to collaborate with the Marketing team on product improvements, sales strategies, and institutional outreach.
Manages the digital and manual systems interfacing with visitors, including the distribution, collection, and maintenance of specialized tour equipment like headphones.
Acts as a critical cross-functional liaison with IT, FMS and security teams to maintain site safety and efficiency, while simultaneously driving quality control initiatives.
Executes additional specialized assignments to support the evolving needs of the Visitors Centre as required.
Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making.
Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures. • Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills & Competencies
Knowledge of strategic communications principles and practices,
Knowledge of risks to information integrity – misinformation, disinformation, hate speech, and threats in fragile, post conflict, and crisis environments;
Presentation skills, communication skills, storytelling ability, audience adaptation and critical thinking are key skills required for the post.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this job opening, either English or French is required. Amharic and Arabic and Chinese (Mandarin) are desirable.
