Description: The Arkena Coffee Market has partnered with Technoserve to assist them in their ReGROW Yirga Project.  We will be assisting with quality experiments, providing quality control and business trainings, and marketing of partner CWS coffees.  The hire will be directly involved in these activities and in assisting with our marketplace QC activities.

Responsibilities:

• Hire will be responsible for receiving, labeling, recording and organizing coffee samples in the lab.

• Hire will be responsible for analyzing coffee samples both raw (green) and sensorial, recording results.

• Hire will be responsible for making recommendations for correcting any defects they may observe in samples.

• Hire will be responsible for laboratory maintenance, upkeep and overall cleanliness.

• Hire will be responsible for making trips to the field to observe CWS operations in the Gedio Zone.

• Hire will be responsible for overseeing experimental projects and ensuring that experiments are progressing as per plan in the Gedio zone and at partner CWS stations.

•  Hire will assist with preparing, organizing and conducting trainings for partner CWSs and Technoserve staff.

•  Hire will submit weekly reports to Arkena Coffee Market management.

•  Hire will assist with other Arkena Coffee Market activities as needed.

Position Type: Contractual (with 3-month probationary period).

Duration: Guaranteed funding through March 2025 with possibility of extension. 

Start Date: No later than October 31, 2022.

Location: Position is based in Dilla, Sidama with normal trips to the field to visit partner coffee washing stations in Gedio Zone and surrounding areas.  Hire will work out of the Technoserve office and laboratory in Dilla.

Job Requirements

Compensation:

• Up to 25,000.00 ETB/month and depending upon experience.

Education:

• None but and QCI, SCA or other applicable trainings/certifications will be considered.

Experience:

• Looking for at least 1-year experience working in coffee specifically in quality control/quality analysis but those with less are encouraged to apply.

Requirements:

• Must be proficient in spoken and written English

• Must be comfortable using computers and using Microsoft Excel, Word, etc.

• Must be comfortable working in the field.

•  Must be able to roast samples for sensorial analysis, prepare cupping tables, analyze both raw (green) and sensorial characteristics of coffee.

• Must display strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
